The Veterans' War Memorial is a project funded by the GFSA and initiated by former students John Paul Tallent and Leon Watson with the approval of the GFSA Board and the Gladewater Gusher Days Committee. The dedication took place in September, 2002 with a large crowd in attendance. (Gusher Day’s owns the property on which the memorial was constructed. The GFSA and Gusher Days Chamber Committee each pay half the monthly electric bill for the Memorial. GFSA pays for lawn maintenance.)
The Veterans' Memorial is located downtown on East Pacific Avenue. If you visit, you will find four black granite slabs, engraved with names front and back, that pay tribute to our local men and women who served in the armed forces from the Civil War to the Persian Gulf War. The GFSA Board recently voted to support former student John Paul Tallent's efforts in raising money for another stone to honor vets from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. This additional stone was dedicated in 2014.
